Celexa Side Effects, Information and Celexa Tidbits

What is Celexa?

Celexa (Citalopram) is used to treat depression, social anxiety disorder and panic disorder. It is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). This works by restoring the balance of serotonin in the brain which helps improve certain mood problems.

Citalopram was originally created in 1989 by the pharmaceutical Lundbeck. Recently, Lundbeck released an updated formulation called escitalopram (aka Cipralex or Lexapro) and acquired a new patent for it. Citalopram is a Pgp substrate (like Effexor, Elavil and Paxil) and is actively transported by that protein from the brain.
